Benefits of Working with Magnification

Our digital radiography and intra-oral photography provide high-powered magnification during your visit so that our Doctors can precisely examine your teeth and gums and detect microscopic problems that may not be visible to the naked eye. This means a dental problem can be treated before it has a chance to become more serious or painful. In addition, the magnification allows our team to treat the problem in a much more precise manner, often less invasively, and therefore transforms the way we practice dentistry.

These views are typically what a Doctor sees with the naked eye during a conventional clinical examination. The actual size of a tooth is typically less than 10mm wide as see here with this molar.

With our digital imaging and Dental Loupes eyewear, our Doctors have the ability to magnify a tooth up to 40 times the original size potentially revealing conditions that would otherwise go unnoticed.

Decay Magnified

Other benefits to working with magnification includes detecting cracks within tooth structure that would otherwise go unnoticed with the naked eye.  Without treatment, these cracks can propagate deep into the tooth and can result in loss of significant portions of one’s tooth and, as in the case seen below, the crack can spread to the nerve.  This tooth in particular required a large restoration, root canal treatment and a porcelain crown to restore it to health.  If the crack had been tended to earlier it may have only required a small filling only.

At Westmount Dental, we always recommend treating decay and cracks as early as possible so that the treatment is conservative and preserves as much natural tooth structure as possible. Our goal is to avoid invasive and costly procedures for our patients.

Our office offers appointments throughout the week including evenings, Saturdays and Sundays (by appointment as days and times vary). We always welcome ne patients, emergencies and offer free consultations. And we rely on your referrals for our growth.

Our dentists provide a full range of treatment all under one roof to minimize the need for outside referrals. Some of the treatment we provide includes the full service and placement of dental implants, root canal therapy, wisdom tooth surgery, sedation, invisalign orthodontics, and cosmetic treatments. Most importantly, our preventive dental care program aims to reduce the risk of you and your family requiring more invasive and costly treatment.
