What Is the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) Dental Benefit?
The Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) provides dental benefits for eligible adults receiving income support. The provincial government program helps reduce the cost of essential dental care, allowing eligible individuals to maintain better oral health without worrying about unexpected dental expenses.
Dental benefits are administered through Accerta on behalf of the Ontario Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services (MCCSS).

Understanding the MCCSS dental schedules
Your ODSP dental coverage is based on the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services (MCCSS) Schedule of Dental Services and Fees and the MCCSS Schedule of Dental Hygiene Services and Fees. These schedules outline the dental treatments that are covered, the fees that are reimbursed, and any limitations or frequency guidelines that may apply to specific services.
At Westmount Dental, we use the current MCCSS schedules to determine your eligible coverage before treatment. If you have questions about whether a specific procedure is covered under your ODSP dental coverage, our team will be happy to review your benefits, explain any plan limitations, and discuss your treatment options before your appointment begins.
How to apply for ODSP
The ODSP application and review process can take several months. Once your ODSP application has been approved, you may become eligible for ODSP dental coverage if you meet the program’s eligibility requirements. If you are not currently receiving benefits but believe you may qualify, you can apply for the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) in one of the following ways:
Online ODSP application
Complete an online application for yourself and any immediate family members living with you.
Apply by phone
Call the Social Assistance Support Line at 1-888-999-1142 (TTY: 1-800-387-5559).
Apply in-person
Book an appointment with your local ODSP office to submit your application.
What is the Dental Special Care Plan?
Some individuals require additional dental care because their disability or medical condition affects their oral health. Eligible patients may qualify for the Dental Special Care Plan, which provides additional coverage beyond the standard ODSP dental benefit.
Examples of qualifying conditions include:
- Diabetes
- HIV/AIDS
- Developmental disabilities (including Down syndrome)
- Radiation treatment to the head or neck
- Medications that cause dry mouth (such as certain diuretics)
- Other medical conditions affecting oral health
If appropriate, your dentist can submit a pre-authorization request on your behalf. Once approved, treatment plans typically remain valid for up to five years, provided you continue to qualify for ODSP dental benefits.
