Gum disease treatment

  • Protect the gums, bone, and tissues supporting your teeth
  • Personalized periodontal disease treatment plans for long term oral health

What is gum disease?

Gum disease, also known as periodontal disease, is an infection that affects the gums, ligaments, and bone supporting your teeth.

The earliest stage is known as gingivitis, which causes red, swollen, and bleeding gums. At this stage, the condition is often reversible with professional care and improved oral hygiene.

If left untreated, gingivitis can progress into periodontitis, a more advanced condition that damages the bone and tissues supporting the teeth. As the disease advances, pockets form around the teeth where bacteria accumulate, increasing the risk of tooth loss and other oral health complications. At this stage, periodontal surgery would be needed.

When do I need gum disease treatment?

Periodontal treatments are based on the severity of the disease, your oral health history, and your individual risk factors. Here are some signs and symptoms that will tell you when it’s time for gum disease treatment.

Red, swollen, or tender gums
Bleeding when brushing or flossing
Receding gums
Persistent bad breath
Loose teeth or changes in bite
Food trapping between teeth

Gum disease treatment process

Our periodontal disease treatment process is designed to eliminate infection, reduce inflammation, and protect your teeth.

Comprehensive examination

We evaluate your gums, measure periodontal pockets, and assess bone support around your teeth. Based on your condition, we develop a personalized gum disease treatment plan.

Scaling and root planing

This non-surgical periodontal treatment removes bacterial buildup beneath the gums and smooths the surface of the tooth. After scaling and root planing is performed many patients do not require any further active treatment.

Adjunctive gum disease therapy

Depending on the severity of the infection, additional gum disease therapy may include oral hygiene instruction and antibiotics to control bacteria and support long-term gum health.

Ongoing gum health maintenance

We monitor healing and assess the effectiveness of treatment. Regular maintenance appointments help prevent disease recurrence and support long-term health.
